Technical Support for Hogenakkal Water Supply and Fluorosis Mitigation Project.

The project coverage extends to two districts in Tamil Nadu viz. Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri. It was funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Technical Support was provided by STEM for 54 months to this project.

STEM Team provided Technical Support to Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage (TWAD) Board to implement Fluorosis Mitigation component of Hogenakkal Water Supply project in the areas specified below.

  • Assessing prevalence of different manifestations of fluorosis for creating baseline;
  • Designing Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and creating awareness about drinking fluoride contaminated water, manifestations of fluorosis and health safeguards;
  • Enhancing knowledge and skills of teachers and health professional in diagnosis and providing necessary advice;
  • Building competencies of laboratory personnel in analysis of water and urine samples.
  • Getting the urine and water samples tested in accredited laboratories, for testing fluoride levels.
