Technical Support for Hogenakkal Water Supply and Fluorosis Mitigation Project.

The project covers two districts in Tamil Nadu namely Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri. This was funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Technical Support was provided by STEM for 54 months to this project.

Under the Human Resource Development (HRD) Component, the Project Team Organized 27 One-day Training of Trainer (ToT) programmes for 839 doctors; 95 One-day Trainings for 3785 Teachers and 41 Two-day Trainings for 2305 Community Health Workers. The themes addressed include identification of the fluorosis symptom; treatment/mitigation and corrective surgery. The laboratory technicians were trained on analysis of fluoride levels in water and urine samples. Learning materials such as Training Material for Doctors, Teachers and Health workers; Manual for village volunteers and Village Health Nurses and Nutrition Manual for all on fluorosis mitigation have been prepared.
