Baseline and Gender analyses Survey in Slums in Bangalore.
The study was funded by the WHO/Bangalore City Corporation. Duration of the study was 13 months starting June 1991. The main objective was to study family size, age at marriage, fertility, awareness of maternal and child care, family planning, communication on prevention on prevention of pregnancy, child care provided for children under two years and maternal care received during last pregnancy of the slum dwellers. A representative sample of married female aged 15 one from each household was interviewed to collect necessary data. From each zone 25 per cent of the slums were selected at random. Attempts were made to locate each sampled slum and after locating it the households were enumerated. Additional slums were sampled to make up for non-existing slums. From each slum one household in six was sampled by systematic sampling.
